For "Saintly Sayings II" I have chosen St. Augustine of Hippo, a well know saint and Doctor of the Church whose feast day is this month. A man with a shady past and a devoted mother who prayed non-stop for her son. I can relate to that.

Saintly Sayings

August 4 is the feast day of Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney, or as he is more commonly know in english, St. John Vianney.

I hold a special affinity for St. John Vianney as the name of the church where I was brought into the Catholic faith was St. John Vianney. So I have chosen him to be the Saint to kick off my new series of Saintly Sayings to share on social media.

A popular force in his own time,   people from far away began traveling great distances to be able to consult with him. "By 1855, the number of pilgrims had reached 20,000 a year." according to Wikipedia.   All of this before the advent of mass media of any type.    During the last ten years of his life, he spent 16 to 18 hours a day in the confessional. He spent at least 11 or 12 hours a day in the confessional during winter, and up to 16 in the summer. Just knowing this about him should speak volumes about this Man of God.

I have assembled a few of his quotes, and picking just a few which was no easy feat, as there   are plenty more bits of wisdom where these come from - do a google search, the man was amazing!   I hope you enjoy.
